Tennessee Women Lose First, Men Stay Perfect
The Tennessee Lady Vols perfect record is no more. KIm Caldwell and crew got down by 16 in the third quarter to #9 Oklahoma Sunday afternoon at the Food City Center. The Lady Vols made a valiant comeback in the 4th quarter, but came up just short as they fell to Oklahoma, 87-86. This was the first real test for the Lady Vols, who are now 13-1 on the season. It does not get easier, as the Lady Vols will host LSU, the #6 team in the nation, this Thursday, January 9. The Tigers are 16-0 this season. Tip-off for that game is 6:30pm.
The Tennessee men have their perfect record intact after a vist by the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday in Knoxville. Tennessee defeated Arkansas 76-52, to remain undefeated at 14-0. With Florida and Oklahoma both losing, Tennessee is now the only undefeated team left in men’s college basketball. With the 14-0 record, Roick Barnes’ Vols have now matched the best start in school history, matching the 1922-23 Vols team that started 14-0. They only played 17 games in a season back then. Up next, Tennessee hosts unranked Georgia on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 8pm. The Vols are expected to retain their number one ranking when the new AP poll is released on Monday.
