Thousands Turn Out To Welcome Home Champs!
Last night thousands lined Gay Street in Knoxville to help the Tennessee Vols celebrate their first ever College World Series national championship. Coach Tony Vitello, his coaches and all the players rode in a motorcade up Gay Street on their way to Market Square for a big celebration. It had been 73 years since the Vols had last made the College World Series final in 1951. Their 6-5 win Monday night in Game three of the College World Series gave the Vols their very first ever national championship in baseball. So, Tennessee can now claim national championships in three major sports in their athletic department: football, women’s basketball and now baseball.
Many of the players on this national championship squad will be back for another run in 2025. Zander Siechrist, Cal Stark and Kirby Connell are players that will not be back. Christian Moore is expected to be taken in the MLB draft next month. Draft experts believe he could go in the first round. The MLB Draft is July 14-16.
