Titans Break Ground On New Stadium
It was a big day for the Tennessee Titans and their fans yesterday. On Thursday afternoon, Titans officials, dignitaries like Governor Bill Lee and special guests like former Titan Eddie George and country stars Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood all were on hand to help break ground on the new Titans stadium on the East Bank of the Cumberland River across from downtown. The new $2.1 billion stadium is being built right next to the current Nissan Stadium. Titans President and CEO Burke Nihill says that fans can expect to see half of the stadium’s structure in place by the time the Titans play their first game of the 2024 season in September. Nihill says over 1600 workers will be on that project site each day. The $2.1 billion price tag is being paid for by the Titans, local funds and also help from the state.
Ground was broken for the current Nissan Stadium in 1997 and it opened in 1999. The new Nissan Stadium will be a 60,000 seat stadium with a roof which will allow Nashville and Tennessee to host major events such as the Super Bowl and the Final Four. The new stadium is set to be completed in 2027.
