TN Dept Of Agriculture Asks For Quarantine Of New Dairy Cattle
Officials with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture are advising Tennessee cattle producers to quarantine new cows they acquire for a period of at least two weeks. This is due to a mysterious illness that is affecting dairy cows in Texas. According to officials with Department of Agriculture, effected cows are experiencing a loss of appetite and decreased milk production. Officials say that milk from affected cows has not been released into the milk supply. Beef cattle do not seem to be affected.
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture is helping their counterparts in Texas try to figure out just what they are dealing with. No cases have been discovered yet in Tennessee, which is why the Department of Agriculture is requesting new cows be subject to that quarantine. Should you notice signs of illness in your cattle, call the Tennessee State Veterinarian’s office at 615-837-5120.
