Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest
A traffic stop in the Carson Springs area last week led to the arrest of a man selling illegal narcotics. A Cocke County deputy spotted a vehicle on Carson Springs Road that was failing to stay in its lane. When the vehicle was pulled over, the driver, 33 year old Aaron Hill of Newport handed the deputy a burnt marijuana cigarette…telling the deputy I know you can smell it so I’ll just hand it to you. When asked if there was anything else in the vehicle illegal, Hill originally said no. However, when told another deputy was on they way and the vehicle would be searched for probable cause, Hill admitted to having a pistol and 5 ounces of marijuana in his car. In their search, deputies found more than that. The search yielded 337 grams of marijuana, plus baggies, digital scales, a loaded Glock 9mm pistol and $1,361 in cash. Hill was charged with possession of schedule VI drugs and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
