Two Cocke Co. Deputies Shot At During Domestic Dispute
A Dangerous situation for two Cocke County deputies the other day. Deputies responded to a home on Airport Road about a domestic disturbance involving an intoxicated woman. Residents at the home stated that 43 year old Traci Howerton of New Market had come to their home yelling and beating on their cars. They told deputies that she had left and went to a residence just up the hill. As deputies began to head up the hill to the other home, a shot rang out…then another shot and deputies were forced to take cover behind their patrol cars. The residents at the home where the shots were coming from yelled that Traci Howerton was the one firing the gun. After several calls to get her to come out of the residence and drop the weapon, Howerton stumbled out the back door of the home. Deputies were able to get her into custody. Afterwards, deputies found a loaded .22 caliber pistol in a bedroom that had been the weapon fired. Three shots had been discharged out of the eight rounds that were in the gun. Howerton has been charged with Violation of an Order of Protection, Reckless Endangerment With A Deadly Weapon, and Possession of a Handgun while intoxicated.
