Two Drug Arrests Over The Weekend
A man with recent run ins with the law was arrested in Newport Saturday evening. Police had spotted 31 year old Nathan Dior leaving a residence on Northside Avenue. Dior was wanted on a fully extraditable capias warrant in West Virginia. Police attempted to stop Dior, but he continued driving, eventually pulling into a rear driveway of the residence he had left from. Dior jumped from his truck before it stopped moving and ran from police who used a taser to bring him down. Police officers found Dior was in possession of 114 grams of heroin and multiple bags of methamphetamine. He also had over $1400 in cash, plus a scale and scoop for measuring out illegal narcotics. Dior now faces charges of possession of schedule I and possession with intent to sell schedule II narcotics along with resisting arrest.
Another drug arrest happened when officers responded to the Walgreen’s parking lot in Newport shortly after midnight on Monday. A woman identified as 34 year old Brandy Mantooth was found slumped over the wheel of a Kia Optima in the store’s parking lot. Mantooth, who appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic, had a baggie sticking out of her bra. That baggie contained about 4.5 grams of methamphetamine, .89 grams of heroin, and assorted pills found to be Clonazepam and Gabepentin. A black bag was also found in the driver’s seat of the vehicle containing over 100 plastic baggies and a digital scale associated with the sale of illegal narcotics. Mantooth was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell both schedule I & schedule II drugs.
