Two Face Charges After 4th Street Assault
Two men were arrested after they assaulted another man on 4th Street in Newport Sunday night. Eric Carver told police that he heard something outside that sounded like a vehicle crash. When he went outside to see, a BMW came racing up the road and he motioned to that vehicle to slow down. The driver of that BMW, 19 year old Levi Hill stopped the car, got out and assaulted Carver. The passenger in the BMW, 19 year old Juan Flores also got out and assaulted Carver, who was left with a swollen bloody face. A witness to the attack notified an off-duty Cocke County deputy to the situation as Levi Hill threated to retrieve a gun he had in his car and shoot everyone. The off-duty deputy then arrived and was able to get Hill in custody as Newport officers arrived and helped get the situation under control.
A search of Hill’s BMW found a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun. Both Hill and Flores are charged with Aggravated Assault. Hill faces additional charges of DUI and Possession of a Handgun While Under the Influence and Disorderly Conduct.
