Two Men Attempt To Steal ATM
Police in Greeneville are trying to find two men who stole an ATM machine Sunday. Police received a call around 3:30 am Sunday morning that two men in a white truck were attempting to steal a Greeneville Federal Bank ATM near the Food City on Asheville Hwy. The witnesses stated the two men were attempting to steal it with two chains and hooks. Officers found the truck abandoned at the entrance to the Food City. The ATM was found near the Food City gas pumps, completely removed from its concrete slab. It appears the men did not get into the ATM as no money appeared to be stolen. The two men were said to have been wearing black masks and got into a white vehicle and drove away empty handed. The white Chevy truck used in the ATM theft was found to havee been stolen.
This is the latest in a rash of ATM thefts over the past several months in East Tennessee. Two ATM’s were burglarized in Greeneville last month. Three were targeted in Johnson City between October and December. And yet another ATM was robbed in the Mosheim area in November, plus one in Carter County in January.
