Two New Wildfires In Cocke County
Not much rain fell, but the winds were very strong overnight. Two new wildfires broke out Monday night in Cocke County. One of those is in the Cosby area along Wilton Springs Road. The Cocke County Fire Department , Cosby Volunteer Fire Department, Grassy Fork Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Cocke County Sheriff Office, Priority Ambulance Service, Tennessee Division of Forestry, Newport Rescue Squad, and the Emergency Management Agency have been on scene throughout the night. That fire is now 50% contained as of an update around 5am. Some residents did evacuate their homes in that area out of precaution, but no evacuations have been ordered at this time.
The second new wildfire is the Cabbage County fire that is burning out towards the Grassy Fork area. Cocke County Fire, Del Rio Volunteer Fire, Grassy Fork Volunteer Fire, Fines Creek, Parrottsville Volunteer Fire Department, and Tennessee Division of Forestry along with the EMA are working that fire. No evacuations have been ordered in that fire.
The Black Bear fire is also continuing to burn along I-40 just inside North Carolina. That fire is 42% contained and is 1740 acres.
