TWRA Makes 13 BUI Arrests For Holiday Weekend
The TWRA has released information regarding the Memorial Day weekend. TWRA agents were out in full force over the holiday weekend as many took to the waters of Tennessee for the unofficial start of summer. Between 5pm Friday and midnight Monday night, the TWRA says they made 13 arrests statewide for boating under the influence, or BUI. Six of those arrests were in East Tennessee. There were five boating injuries and eight property damage incidents the TWRA responded to in the state. The majority of the property damage incidents were in Middle Tennessee.
There was just one death over the Memorial Day weekend on Tennessee waters and that happened when a 19 year old man jumped off a boat Saturday night on Watts Bar Lake to swim and never resurfaced. His body was recovered around 2am Sunday morning. The TWRA says they are still investigating that death, which is the eighth on Tennessee waters so far this year.
