Unemployment Rate Up For All TN Counties In June
Unemployment rates for individual counties in Tennessee for the month of June have been released. Summer break from schools has helped bump the unemployment rates up for all 95 counties in the state. Greene County had one of the biggest increases in unemployment as they went from 4.2% in May to 5.5% in June. That puts Greene County in the list of the 10 highest unemployment rates in the state.
Cocke County also saw a significant increase, going up 1 percent from 4.2% in May to 5.2% in June. Most counties in the area saw a unemployment rates rise nearly 1 percentage point. Hamblen County is at 4.3%, up from 3.4% in May. Jefferson County’s unemployment rate for June was 4%, meanwhile Sevier County saw the lowest increase. Their rate went up just a half a percent from 2.7 to 3.2%. That ranks as the lowest unemplyment rate in the state.
The unemployment rate for June statewide was 3.5%. The unemployment rate for the state is seasonally adjusted where the individual counties are not. The US unemployment rate for June was 4.1%. California and Nevada are tied for the highest unemployment rate in the nation at 5.4%. Although Washington DC, or the District of Columbia has an unemployment rate of 5.9%. The Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks DC the highest among states in the US.
