Unruly Discharged Patient Arrested For Disorderly Conduct

A close call for a Newport police officer Thursday. Police had been dispatched to the Newport Medical Center about a discharged patient who would not leave. Officer Justin Vinson found the unruly male identified as 19 year old Hayden Smith. Hospital security was trying to get Smith to leave but he refused. When officer Vinson told him to leave, Smith began pushing him and trying to get the officer off his feet before lunging and making an attempt at officer Vinson’s gun and taser. Vinson was finally able to get Smith to the ground and hold him there till help arrived. Smith was taken to jail charged with disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment.
