Vehicle With Unconscious Driver Rolls Onto West Broadway

Police in Newport responded to a call Thursday night about a man passed out in a vehicle in the parking lot of the LaCaretta Mexican restaurant…and that vehicle was rolling into West Broadway. By the time police arrived, the vehicle had crashed into an embankment on West Broadway and the driver, 31 year old Kenneth Carver, was unresponsive in the driver seat with the vehicle still in drive. Carver appeared to have suffered an overdose. Narcan was administered and Carver became conscious again but was still incoherent. He was found with a cut straw but later told police that he had not snorted any drug, but he admitted he had smoked heroin shortly before getting behind the wheel. He was also found to be in possession of nearly 5 grams of methamphetamine. He was charged with possession schedule II narcotics and DUI.
