Vols Go Cold…Go Down In SEC Tournament
The SEC Player of the Year was totally silenced in the first half of Tennessee’s first game in the SEC Tournament. Mississippi State’s defense was able to totally silence Dalton Knecht in the first 20 minutes of the game…holding him to just 2 of 8 from the field. Plus, the Bulldogs took an errant pass from Dalton Knecht and turned it into a statement with one second to play to go up 19 at the end of the first half…38-19. Tennessee scored a season low 21% from the field in the first. The second half started off with a 5-0 Tennessee run, but turnovers and cold shooting doomed the Voils who were down by more than 20 with 10 minutes to play. The Vols got within 12 with 6 minutes to play, but the same issues with turnovers and cold shooting led to the Bulldogs putting the game away and Tennessee goes down in the SEC Tournament by the score of 73-56.
The Vols will now have to await the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Sunday night. The poor showing in the SEC Tournament virtually assures that Tennessee will not get one of the four number one seeds in the tournament. Tennessee will likely land a two seed out west.
