Weather Cancels Schools And Court

Cocke County and surrounding counties experienced significant wind gusts overnight. Wind gusts of 40 miles an hour plus were common at times. This has led several school systems to close for today because of the strong weather.
The following schools are closed:
Cocke County
Newport Grammar School
Greeneville City schools
Hamblen and Jefferson County delayed one hour
Sevier County…two hour delay
Also Cocke County Criminal Court is Canceled
All Circuit Court Criminal Cases that were to be heard Tuesday 1/9 will be reset
Fourth Judicial District (Cocke County) Child Support Court closed

A Wind Advisory is in effect for all of East Tennessee till 7am Wednesday. Winds of 20-30 mph sustained coming out of the south with wind gusts reaching as high as 50 mpn. The mountains remain under a High Wind Warning with gusts up to 85 mph in the high elevations. That warning is in effect until 7pm Tuesday evening, 1/9.
