Welfare Check Turns Deadly In Jefferson County
A welfare check turned deadly Tuesday in Dandridge. According to the TBI, Tuesday morning around 11am, Jefferson County sheriff’s department was requested to do a welfare check on a man at a residence on Davand Swann Drive in Dandridge. According to the TBI…the man was not cooperative with officers and refused to come outside. When the man eventually came outside, he got into a vehicle…but…as he was leaving, he stopped, got out of the car, and for reasons still not known got into an altercation with an officer. That altercation led to a Jefferson County deputy and an officer with the White Pine Police Department firing shots, striking that individual. The man was then taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to the TBI no officers were injured during the incident. The TBI is continuing to investigate to find out the events that lead up to that fatal shooting.
