Winter Storm Warning
East Tennessee is under a Winter Storm Warning till 7am Tuesday morning as up to 6″ of snow is expected in the area Monday into Tuesday morning. Some local heavier accumulations are possible. After the snowfall, cold arctic air will move in on Tuesday. Temperatures Tuesday night are expected to fall into the mid single digits. The National Weather Service says a prolonged period of 48 hours of sub-freezing temps lie ahead.
Make preparations for the cold weather by making sure you have plenty of food and water on hand. If you heat with wood make sure to have plenty of dry firewood. If you have pets, bring them inside during these cold temperatures. If they must be left outside, make sure they have shelter and use a heated water bowl to keep their water from freezing. Remember, if you are cold, so are your pets.
If you have to be on the roads during the cold weather, the AAA recommends you have an emergency kit in your car. That kit should include plenty of bottled water and non-perishable snacks; blankets plus coat, hat and gloves; a flashlight with spare batteries; plus a cell phone car charger. If you were to have a break down on the side of the road, the AAA says you should stay in your car. It can be used as shelter until help arrives.
