Winter Weather Advisory Till Friday Morning

Another winter storm system is quickly approaching…that has led the national weather service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for the area. That advisory begins at noon today and runs till 7am Friday morning. Precipitation expected to start as rain around noon today, then as the thermometer drops, change over to snow around 3-4 this afternoon. 1-3″ …possibly 4 ” in some areas should be the norm. The mountains are under a Winter Storm Warning with up to 6″ of snow possible. If you are planning on traveling west…areas to the west of Knoxville are under a Winter Storm Warning with heavy snow expected today and tonight.

Because of the threat of winter weather, schools are responding. Newport Grammar School will close at 11:30 this morning. Cocke County schools will be closing at noon.

Elsewhere, Greene County schools will close at 11:30, Hamblen County will close 3 hours early, Jefferson County closing at noon.

Another system will come in Sunday, that could make your drive to church a little dicey with maybe some freezing rain to contend with.
