Woman Arrested After Shot Fired
Cocke County deputies were dispatched Wednesday to an address on east Hwy 25-70 after a man was afraid his wife had shot herself. Steven Drenth told deputies that he and his wife Brenda had an ongoing argument and on Wednesday she told him that she had a solution to the problem. He says she left the home and when she returned, she had a Smith & Wesson 40 caliber handgun that she then pointed to her own head. He stated he tried to talk her down from that situation when she pointed the gun at him and threatened to kill him. Drenth says his wife then walked outside and shortly afterwards heard a gunshot. He says he then went outside and could not locate her so he called 911. Deputies located Brenda Drenth on the property. She told them she had fired a shot into the ground when she got outside. Deputies recovered the gun and took Brenda Drenth into custody charging her with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
