Woman Dead After Fall From Anakeesta Chairlift

A woman is dead after falling from the chairlift at Anakeesta in Gatlinburg. It happened just after 7:30 Thursday night. The woman was found under the chair lift by first responders in Gatlinburg. The chairlift takes Anakeetsa visitors up to their attractions. Witnesses say that other visitors tried to alert the woman that her safety railing was up, but she did not respond. She reportedly fell out of her chair about 3/4ths of the way up the mountain. Witnesses say that the ride kept going for ten or 15 minutes after the incident as Anakeesta employees continued to load people onto the chairlift after the woman fell. That incident is under investigation.
