Woman Tries To Steal Car With Man Attached
A Cocke County woman has been charged after she tried to steal a car. This happened Tuesday on Buffalo Road in Bybee. James Hall told deputies that he had bonded 30 year old Ashley Hairr out of jail earlier in the day and took her to his house. It was at the home in Bybee that Hall says he was showing Hairr the stereo he had installed in his girlfriend’s car when Hairr jumped in the drivers’ seat and attempted to take the car.
Hall says he reached into the car to try to disable it, but Hairr put the vehicle in gear and took off with Hall hanging out the drivers’ side window. Hairr drove through a field at Hall’s house and then drove off an embankment onto the roadway striking another embankment. Hall says that Hairr then backed up and attempted to flee again when she crashed into an embankment on the opposite side of the roadway. That impact disabled the vehicle to where she could not drive away and Hall was able to get himself removed from the drivers’ side window. Hairr was taken into custody and faces charges of Reckless Endangerment with a Deadly Weapon and Theft of Property over $1,000
