Woman Victimized By Pretend Cable Company
A Newport woman has had someone using her bank account without her permission, thanks to who she thought was her cable company. The victim stated that she had been contacted from someone claiming to be from Xfinity. That supposed representative stated that they need a picture of a check for payment of her cable bill. The woman sent them a picture of her check and authorized them to take money for that bill. Since then she has been contacted four other times by the same company for authorization to take money for her cable bill. However, she stated that her cable was then disconnected due to non payment. She spoke with someone at Xfinity who advised her that it was not their company that had been contacting her. Not only is she in arrears with Xfinity, she is out $840 thanks to the scammers.
