Wrong Vehicle Tag Leads To Drug Arrest
A tag on the wrong vehicle turned into a drug related arrest on Friday in Newport. Police spotted a white Chevrolet Impala traveling on East Broadway, but the tag belonged to a red Dodge. When police attempted to pull the vehicle over, the passenger dropped something small and white out of the car window before the vehicle came to a stop in the Eastern Plaza shipping Center. 48 year old George Trent was the driver, he had a warrant for his arrest, so he was taken into custody. The passenger, 28 year old Christopher Nash originally denied dropping anything out of the window. A police officer then searched and found a broken glass pipe consistent with the use of narcotics which matched the description of the item being thrown from the vehicle. Nash was charged with Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia and Tampering with Evidence.
