Burn Permits Still Required In TN
Even though we have been getting rain recently, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture wants to remind residents that if they plan on burning anything, you still need a permit to do so. Burn permits are required through May 15 in the state of Tennessee. Those permits are issued through the Tennessee Division of Forestry. State Forester Heather Slayton says that “burn permits help communicate with landowners about when and where it is safe to burn at any given time and are vital to help communities and firefighters safe”.
Recently we have seen smoke in this area coming from a wildfire that’s burning near Bryson City, North Carolina. Burn permits are issued for the day on which they are obtained, so you should plan on getting a permit on the day you’ll be burning. Burn permits are easy to obtain, by visiting www.BurnSafeTN.org. between the hours of 8am and 11pm seven days a week. If you don’t have online access, you can also call 1-877-350-BURN Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
