Updated Story: Cocke Co Woman Charged After Trying To Set Car On Fire
THIS EARLIER STORY HAS BEEN UPDATED:
After being contacted by the suspect in this case, and in an effort to make sure our reporting is fair and accurate, WNPC contacted the Cocke County Sheriff’s office. The original story stated that the suspect was found with .3 grams of cocaine in her possession, which was tested by the TBI lab. Although the charge of simple possession was listed in the official sheriff’s department report, when the suspect was booked that charge was dropped off. As a result, it does not appear on the suspect’s bond paperwork listing the official charges. The original story has been amended to show this change.
The Cocke County Sheriff’s office responded Monday night to a residence on Rock Hill Road after a call about a physical altercation taking place. When law enforcement arrived, they found a woman trying to set a car on fire. That woman, 47 year old Rebecca Mitchell then tried to walk away from the scene, but was stopped by a Cocke County deputy. She was charged with disorderly conduct, public intoxication and resisting arrest, as she fought being be apprehended and then kicked the door of the patrol cruiser when placed in the back seat.
The car that Mitchell tried to burn did suffer some fire damage, plus the back windshield and the driver side back seat window were busted out.
