Cocke County Elections Office Moving

The Cocke County Elections Commission has moved their operations from the Cocke County annex building to the early voting site in the Western Plaza Shopping Center. They are closed today, but expect to reopen on Tuesday at the Early Voting Site. Their hours will be 9am-4pm. They are working on getting a Post Office box set up for mail correspondence. They hope to have that information to us by later this week. Voter registration deadline is next Monday, October 7.

As far as roads go, the bridge over the French Broad River on Hwy 321 is now back open. The North Street Bridge over the Pigeon River is now reopened as well. That means traffic can get from Newport to Parrottsville and Greeneville via Hwy 321 as the Newport Highway bridge over the Nolichuky River was reopened late Sunday afternoon. I-40 remains closed at Exit 440. State Highway 32 is closed from Ramsey Road to the North Carolina state line. Travel into North Carolina is basically impossible. Hwy 25-70 from Newport to Hot Springs, NC is open. But Hwy 25-70 is closed at the bridge over the French Broad River in Hot Springs.
