Suspect Wanted For Theft Charged

Newport police were contacted over the weekend by police in Sevierville to be on the look out for a vehicle involved in a theft at Lowe’s on Winfield Dunn Parkway. A flock camera spotted the vehicle coming into Newport and police were able to pull the vehicle over. The driver was identified as 50 year old Daphne Russell, the suspect wanted for the theft. The stolen property was recovered and taken to the Newport Lowe’s. when Russell was searched, 1.77 grams of methamphetamine was stuffed into her bra. Drug paraphernalia was also found in the vehicle. Russell is charged with Possession of Schedule II narcotics as well as theft under $1,000.
