Newport City School Board of Directors Receives Award

During the April 28^th meeting of the Newport City Board of Education, the Board was honored as a TSBA ‘Board of Distinction’. Scott Gillenwaters, Tennessee School Board Association East District Director presented the honor during the meeting. To gain this status, members of the Board must participate in TSBA events to grow in their capacity as board members. Newport’s Board of Education has maintained this designation for more than 16 years, having first gained it under the chairmanship of the late Charlotte Mims. Newport’s Board members include Mike Lewis, Seth Butler, Lisa Askew, Vice Chairman Malcom Mickey Powers and long time member and Chairman Jan Brooks who is honored to carry on the tradition of distinction.
