White Pine Man Leaves Baby On Sidewalk After Accident
A White Pine man is facing numerous charges after leaving his infant son on a sidewalk. Police say early Monday morning, Juan Cervantes crashed his 2012 Chevy Equinox on the railroad tracks in White Pine. He then exited the vehicle with his infant son and video surveillance from a nearby business downtown near Main and Maple streets caught Cervantes running down the street from the crash site and placing the infant on the sidewalk before running off. He was found by police lying unresponsive on his back in the middle of the road about 300 yards away from the baby…who was wearing nothing but a diaper in 34 degree weather. Both Cervantes and the infant needed medical care….the baby transported to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in Knoxville with head and neck injuries. Cervantes has been charged with driving under the influence…aggravated child abuse…driving on a revoked license…and leaving the scene of an accident with injury.
