Man Crashes Into Arby’s Menu Board

Newport police Tuesday evening responded to a vehicle crash in the Arby’s parking lot on Cosby Hwy. No one was injured…at least no one of the human variety. Around 7:30pm, police arrived on scene and spoke to 71 year old James Carlise of Del Rio. He stated he was coming up in the drive thru lane when either his brakes failed of his foot got caught around the accelerator and crashed into the Arby’s menu board…before then striking the car in front of him being driven by Maranda Ochoa of Newport. She confirmed Carlisle’s events. Police had Mr. Carlise test his brakes and they appeared to be faulty so it was towed at his request. No injuries were reported…except for the Arby’s menu board which suffered severe injuries…including being completely dislodged from the ground. Arby’s estimates the damage to the menu board to be around $5,000.
