Suspect Wanted For Attempted Murder Taken Into Custody
A suspect wanted for attempted murder was taken into custody Monday night after he was found wandering around the Cocke County Courthouse. Newport police had been advised that a suspicious male was seen inside the courthouse attempting to take a Christmas wreath around 11:15pm Monday. Police found 49 year old Jeffrey Elmore walking around outside the courthouse and he was found to be the male suspect who had been in the courthouse. Elmore stated he touched the wreath ut did not take it. Upon checking Elmore for warrants, he was found to have two warrants against him…one for attempted first degree murder and the other was for especially aggravated burglary. both charges stemming from an incident in August of 2015. Elmore was taken into custody and transported across the street to the county jail.
