Cades Cove Area Reopens In National Park
The National Park Service has reopened Laurel Creek Road, Cades Cove Loop Road and Cades Cove campground. All three reopened Saturday morning. The national park service had closed those and other roads in the park after strong winds roared through the park nearly a week ago with winds up to 85 mph.
Crews estimate they cleared 600 trees and 1200 cubic yards of debris so far in the cleanup efforts. Park officials say that visitors to the Cades Cove area should be aware that crews may be out working along roadsides and trails for the next few days. Upper Tremont Road will remain closed in that area of the park until crews can clear even more trees. So the cleanup is winding down on that wind event just in time for the next system to bring strong winds back across the park Tuesday night.
