Cocke County Awarded Over $15,000 In Emergency Food Grant Money
A National Board that is chaired by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and includes representatives from numerous national charities has awarded Cocke County with federal funds in the amount of $15,034 under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. The funds are to be used to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.
A Local Emergency Food and Shelter Program Board, comprised of representatives from the same charities as the national board determines how the funds allocated to Cocke County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local organizations in the area. The charities that comprise the national and local board are American Red Cross; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.; The Salvation Army; United Jewish Communities, and United Way of America.
According to a press release issued from the Cocke County Mayor’s Office, under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must meet several qualifications. They are…: 1) be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government, 2) have an accounting system, 3) practice nondiscrimination, 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 5) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board 6) have a UEI (unique entity identifier). Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.
Applications to receive Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds can be picked up at the Cocke County Mayor’s Office, located in the Courthouse Annex building, 360 East Main Street, Suite 146, Newport, TN. Completed applications can be e-mailed to Joanie Stokely with the County Mayor’s office at jstokely@cockecountytn.gov, or you can return the application to mayor’s office. Deadline to submit an application is Wednesday, April 17 at 4pm.
