Cocke County Unemployment Rates Drops Again
Last week unemployment numbers were released for Tennessee and it showed the state’s unemployment rate staying at an historical low of 3.1%. Individual county numbers were released on Thursday and that data showed that 93 of Tennessee’s 95 counties recorded lower unemployment rates in August than in July. That’s according to new data from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Lauderdale County had the state’s highest unemployment rate at 5.8%, which was the same as its rate in July. Bledsoe County had the next highest rate for August, at 5.2%. Cocke County saw its unemployment rate take a dive from 4.6% in July to 4.1% in August, a decrease of a half a percent.
Other surrounding counties saw their rates fall as well. Greene County dropped .6 percent to 4%. Hamblen County dropped from 3.8% in July to 3.5% in August. Jefferson County also dropped from 3.7% to 3.4%. Sevier County once again had one of the lowest rates dropping from 2.7% in July to 2.5% in August.
