Crews Fight Wildfire In Cosby Area

Most fire fighting agencies in Cocke County were busy fighting a wild land fire in Cosby Thursday. The fire broke out Thursday afternoon located in an area between the Pigeon River and Dark Hollow Road. Most of the firefighting happened between Connard Road and Green Road. Several structures including a couple homes were in danger at one point, but firefighters arrived to keep the flames at bay. The fire is listed as 85% contained and is under control. Cosby, Long Creek, Parrottsville, Centerview, Grassy Fork, Del Rio and Cocke County fire departments all responded. Additionally, crews were brought in from Sevier and Jefferson counties and also Haywood County, North Carolina. The Trinity Baptist Church on Hartford Road was used as a staging area for firefighters fighting that wildfire Thursday afternoon.
