Helicopter Pilot Stated He Was Used To Flying Around Mountains
New information continues to be released about that helicopter crash at the Cocke County Sevier County line in Cosby a few weeks ago. According to the NTSB, the pilot and his passenger traveled from Utah to the Gatlinburg Pigeon Forge airport. That pilot was warned numerous times at the airport to not try flying near the Smoky Mountains due to weather conditions. The pilot told those people he was used to mountain flying and it would not be an issue. However he was told that while he may be used to flying in mountains out west, he was not used to flying near these mountains. The pilot took off on Wednesday afternoon January 4th and crashed just 8 miles into his flight…killing his passenger.
