Hit & Run Leads To DUI Arrest

A hit and run accident would up in the arrest of a Cocke County man Tuesday evening, A driver and passenger of a Subaru Forester traveling westbound on East Main Street in Newport, told police that they were bumped from behind y another vehicle. They stated they pulled their vehicle over to the side, but the Chevy HHR that hit them went around them and turned north on North Street heading in the direction of Parrottsville. A witness to the accident followed the HHR and watched it turn on Ron Circle and notified police. The person driving the Chevy HHR was 57 year old Denny Dunn who admitted to officers he had drank several beers. He told police he did not stop as his driver’s license was suspended and because he’d been drinking. Dunn was arrested for DUI and failure to render aid or give information.
