International Women’s Day Event
The concept of International Women’s Day first emerged in the early 1900’s, and yesterday, the Cocke County Partnership Chamber of Commerce hosted the first annual International Women’s Day Luncheon to celebrate the social, economic and cultural achievements of women. The beautifully decorated meeting room at the Best Western Inn was filled with women from across Cocke County. Attendees enjoyed a catered lunch, sparkley pink gift bags filled with goodies and encouraging words from guest speaker, Tammy Francis, founder of Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice. Tammy Francis founded the business in 1982, in a time that the business world was very dominated by men. But Tammy found a way to create and maintain a strong business that not only brought a much needed service to East TN, but has also empowered hundreds of other women.
Chamber Director, Lynn Ramsey said that the first Women’s Day luncheon was a success, and that she looks forward to celebrating the women in Cocke County annually.
