Jefferson Co Student In Custody After Bringing Gun To School
Another scare at a Jefferson County school on Thursday. Around 10:40am, the Rush Strong School was put on lockdown because a student reported seeing a gun in another student’s backpack. Within minutes, administrators and the School Resource Officer located that student, and found the gun as well. The student was removed from the classroom to a secure location, and the gun was confiscated from the student’s backpack. The School Resource Officer then determined that the gun was a pellet gun. The sheriff’s office says at no time were students or staff in danger. A 13 year old male student is now charged with making threats of mass destruction on school property, and is currently being held at the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detection Center in Knoxville.
