Overturned Propane Truck In Parrottsville
A propane truck overturned on Hwy 340 south of Parrottsville around 11:15 today. Propane was leaking from the overturned truck and authorities issued a mandatory evacuation order within a 1 mile radius of the wreck site. The Parrottsville Elementary school gym was set up as an evacuation center. Crews were able to slow the propane leak and transfer the propane onto another truck. The spilled propane was being burned off.
The driver of the truck was injured. The driver was responsive at the hospital but he was then airlifted to the Johnson City Medical Center. Two Cocke County deputies were also taken to the Newport Medical Center after they inhaled propane fumes while rendering aid to the truck driver. Route 340 remains closed between Parrottsville and Del Rio at this time.
