Some Still Without Power After Winter Storm

Mother Natures’ late Christmas present Monday morning left numerous Cocke County residents in the dark. Heavy wet snow weighed down tree branches and power lines which is a perfect recipe for power outages. Several thousand customers with Newport Utilities were without electricity for at least part of the day, for some the wait was most of the day. As of 5pm Monday, over 2,000 customers were still without power. This morning about 1,500 of those customers are still waiting on getting their service restored. The majority of those are in Cosby where 1,272 still remain without electricity. Newport Utilities says they are working as fast as they can to get service restored for those still affected by yesterday’s storms.
