US Dept. Of Education Targets Governor Bill Lee
Numerous school districts have been critical of Governor Bill Lee’s opt-out mask policy for school children….that executive order signed by the governor about 2 weeks ago gave parents the option to opt the children out of any local school mask mandate. Now, the Biden administration is ramping up its attack on the governor.
The United States Department of Education announced Monday that it was investigating five states, including Tennessee, over their universal mask bans. Department officials said the policies in question could be considered discrimination against students with disabilities or health conditions. The Department of Education claims the state’s school masking stance could keep some students from safely attending school. Lee stated his team is reviewing the feds letter and would not comment on it until that review is completed. The governor did say he is not changing course on COVID-19 mitigation strategies…but stressed that getting vaccinated is the best defense against the virus.
The other 4 states the US Department of Education is targeting are Iowa, Oklahoma, Utah and South Carolina.
