Warrant Issued For Assault

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Newport man after he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend. Jennifer Gibson told police that her ex-boyfriend burst into her apartment on Wednesday. She stated he appeared to be high on methamphetamine. 32 year old Phillip Jenkins then began accusing her of talking to other men, began hitting her and at one point tried to strangle Gibson. Gibson’s roommate was a witness to the attack and confirmed Gibson’s account. Jenkins fled on foot before police arrived. A warrant has been sworn out for his arrest for assault.
