Woman Victim Of Scam Involving Gift Cards

A Cocke County woman has fallen victim to a scam involving gift cards. The woman told the Cocke County Sheriff’s office she received a message through a Facebook friend that she was eligible for a $90,000 grant. she just needed to send $1,000 in Ebay gift cards. Her friend Barbara told her to send the gift cards to a Carole Zanaderht who was a federal grant agent. The woman stated she then called her friend Barbara who told her that the Facebook account had been hacked. The victim realized at the time she had been scammed out of $1,000. Deputies are investigating.
