Arson suspected In Two House Fires

Arson investigators are looking into two house fires in the Cosby area. Firefighters arrived to a home at 818 Caney Hollow Road shortly before 2 am Saturday morning, with the structure almost fully engulfed in flames. The fire department extinguished the fire on Caney Hollow but then noticed that the neighboring house at 939 Niber Way, was warm. Fire crews investigated and put out two smoldering fires in vents at that address.

Firefighters and the responding Cocke County deputy then found straw and liquid droplets near the charred vents, which the fire department says they believe was used as an accelerant. They also observed a blower that was still running pushing air into a vent in another part of the house. Firefighters believe the fires at Caney Hollow and Nibor Way are related. Those fires remain under investigation.
