Vehicle Pursuit Ends In Arrest

A vehicle pursuit by both Jefferson and Sevier County police, ended in Cocke County when that vehicle crashed. Dispatch notified Newport police that Jefferson and Sevier county deputies had terminated their pursuit of a black Cadillac Escalade at the Cocke County line on Hwy 25/70. The vehicle was spotted at a red light by Newport police, and the driver of the Escalade then drove thorough the red light on East Broadway, eventually turning on North Street, passing multiple vehicles and exceeding the speed limit. The vehicle then turned onto Hwy 160 north of Newport, and at that time excessive smoke was coming from he motor of the Escalade. The driver drove across the oncoming lane and then down an embankment, coming to rest on its side. The driver was then apprehended by police. 40 year old Adam Hudgens was wanted in Hamblen County for Felony Burglary and theft. He is now charged in Cocke County with reckless driving and evading arrest.
