Electrical Item Left On Bed Suspected In House Fire
The Cocke County Fire Department responded to a house fire Sunday morning. Chase Gregg says he had not been at the home on Circle Drive for the day before, but when he got home, he smelled smoke, which was coming from the inside of the residence. Gregg says he got inside and rescued his dog. Firefighters were able to put out the blaze before it spread to the full residence, with firefighters believing it started in a bedroom. The owner of the home, Stacy Freeman, says that she was the last one at the residence before the fire. The Cocke County Fire Department syas it appears the fire began after an item was left on the bed, that was evidently plugged into an electrical outlet.
Numerous items in the house were damaged and Newport Utilities reported that the electrical meter on the house was also damaged. The American Red Cross was called in to help the residents.
