Blackburn Looking At Gubernatorial Run
How about Governor Blackburn? Some elected officials in the state are wanting to see just that. US Senator Marsha Blackburn says several officials in Tennessee have approached her about running for governor in 2026. Governor Bill Lee is currently serving his second consecutive term and cannot run for another term according to state law. Lee could run again, but has to be out of office for a period of four years before he can do so. So, therefore, a new governor will be elected in November of 2026 and take office in January of 2027.
Marsha Blackburn was just re-elected to a second term in the US Senate last November, as she defeated Knoxville democrat Gloria Johnson. Blackburn, who turns 73 in June, served eight terms in the US House beginning in 2003, before being elected to the senate. Blackburn said she wanted to get past the presidential inauguration before really making a decision about running for the top office in Tennessee.
