Memorial Day Weekend Travel

If you traveled over the Memorial Day weekend, you were definitely not alone. AAA estimates that more than 37 million people traveled over the holiday weekend, that includes air travel. AAA says that is a 60% increase in travel over last year…which is not a surprise after the 2020 lockdowns. It cost people more to travel on the roads this year over the weekend as gas prices are about a dollar higher now than at this time last year….but luckily AAA was wrong about their prediction of gas prices being $3.45 for holiday travel.

Right now the average price for gas in Cocke County is around $2.85 a gallon….which is right in line with the the state average which is sitting at $2.86. The cheapest gas prices in the nation aren’t very cheap…but you can find it in Louisiana for $2.70 a gallon. The most expensive is California even outdoing Hawaii…California average is a whopping $4.20 a gallon for gas.
